June 2012
Dear Patient and Friend,
Our patient of the month for June is Bob. We met Bob at the Home Show this spring. Bob is a hiker and recently joined our practice because pain in his legs, knees and feet were getting the best of him and he was not able to stand or enjoy his long hikes without severe pain. Today he came in essentially pain free after 12 hours of volunteering during the Strawberry Festival. He hiked around the festival all day on Saturday and reported that today he was feeling just great. He credits chiropractic adjustments and cold laser treatments for getting rid of his leg pain and thinks the laser treatments were amazing. Thanks for telling others about chiropractic. The friend or neighbor that you share your chiropractic success with may end up being someone just like Bob!
Thank you for telling others about LightForce® Care. I came out into the waiting area this afternoon and found a group of patients sitting together just hanging out, chatting and catching up. It was great to see that so many of our patients know and care about each other. As a matter of fact, one of them, Ashlee Hawley, is responsible for sending many of her friends and family into our office with great success! Her mom, her grandmom, grandpa, her many friends, her aunts, uncles and really, just about everyone she comes in contact with hears about her drug-free, healthy lifestyle, which includes chiropractic as her primary health care. She was sitting and waiting for her husband, Rob, and her son, Josh to get their adjustments. Thank you so much, Ashlee and Rob, for telling your friends about our LightForce® Care.
It is a scene that occurs frequently in the front, and sometimes in the back of our office. Healthy families and healthy communities grow stronger and healthier through your commitment to serving others. Serve your friends and family by sharing your stories about your chiropractic success like Ashlee and Rob do. You, too, will enjoy a healthier family and a healthier community! And you can end up meeting all your healthy friends in our office!
Something else happened today that made me realize how special our practice is. A brand new patient came in and told me how grateful she was that we are here and that we have the LightForce® approach to adjusting the spine. She has been searching for a gentle adjustment because she had been injured in another office with a more forceful method and was afraid of chiropractic. She loves the chiropractic philosophy of the body healing itself, but feared being injured again. Our gentle technique, pioneered by Dr. Mike back in 1974, and used exclusively in this office since that time, has no popping, wrenching or twisting of the back or neck. It was exactly what she was looking for. She was thanking me even before her first adjustment! What we have is such a gentle and pain-free method that patients will drive hours to have the LightForce® Adjustment! Thank you for spreading the word about our gentle care!
We have been having fun asking this question to everyone who comes for their adjustment this week and we want to ask you, too: Does it mean you are healthy or sick when you have symptoms?
Is it possible that pain can be your friend? That may sound a little crazy because pain obviously hurts. Upon further examination, you will realize that pain can be an indication that something is not right in your body and that you should do something about it before it becomes tomorrow’s deterioration, arthritis, ulcer, heart attack or cancer.
People have been trained to mask pain and keep on going. Over the counter sales of pain killing medications such as aspirin, acetaminophen, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) and many others run in the billions of dollars.
Unfortunately, these temporary symptom relieving pills can make you feel better in the moment while setting the stage for more serious long term health problems down the road, especially if they keep you from addressing the cause of your pain.
Let’s start with a simple backache, hip pain or leg pain, for example. Many people who “feel” these symptoms for the first time may take one of these drugs to help them feel better in the moment, and then do this for years, never addressing the cause. Finally when the pain gets so severe that it causes a debilitating crisis, that individual may have accumulated deterioration and damage, which can affect their entire life.
What may start as a simple issue could become a more complicated condition that could have been prevented with early chiropractic intervention. What is worse is that the accumulated intake of these medications can lead to secondary health problems that are even more severe than the underlying cause of the pain.
Long term aspirin use, for example, has been linked to ulcers and blood clotting problems later in life. NSAIDS have been linked to kidney failure, and long term acetaminophen use has been linked to liver failure especially when combined with alcohol. These side effects are well-documented scientifically but unfortunately not well publicized. Many people take these drugs like candy, as a part of their lifestyle, not realizing the long-term consequences of their actions.
Your body was designed to be healthy and function normally throughout your lifetime without pain and without the need for painkilling medication. Your nervous system, the master control, communication and internet hub of your body, connects your brain to your skin, muscles, bones and every organ including your heart and lungs. At nearly three million messages per second your nervous system monitors your inner world and adapts you to your environment. It will send signals when things are not right; many times in the form of pain. Covering up these warning signals confuses your body and can lead to more severe conditions as you age.
LightForce® Chiropractic care can be very effective for eliminating pain, while also helping your body regenerate and restore the function that can keep you healthy for a lifetime. Top athletes utilize chiropractic care as part of their training and their lifestyle. More importantly, they are proactive in their approach using imbalance as their reason to be checked instead of pain.
Next time you or a loved one experiences pain, don’t just cover it up. Get to the cause with a chiropractic check up. Better yet, be proactive. Check your spine before you “feel” like you need it. Ask our staff for a simple self test to see if you and your loved ones can benefit from chiropractic care.
